Methodology
Every value in Groundswell carries its basis. This page says how each kind of value is made and the rules every value follows.
The four kinds of value
- Published
- Loaded from the publisher exactly as published: a tender notice, a contract disclosure, a capital program.
- Quoted
- Read from a source document by machine and verified word for word against the text. Dates, money, emails, phone numbers and ABNs are parsed from the quote by code, never taken from a model.
- Derived
- Worked out by code from published text: disciplines named in a scope, a council buyer’s area, a buyer’s route to market counted from its awards.
- Inferred
- Read from the record or from verified sources by an agent. Its confidence is shown with its source.
Rules that hold for every value
- A value never appears without its basis and, where one exists, the quote it rests on.
- When sources disagree, both are shown with their dates. Nothing is silently picked.
- A fact past its freshness date is marked and rechecked.
- Contacts: only people named in public records in an official role; anyone can ask to be removed.
